how i wish that it would snow now
I bet you're wondering what came from yesterday's three unsettled things:
JetBlue [also see comments for updates]
I haven't solved things yet with JetBlue. It's kind of breaking my heart because I loved them so much and now they're acting douchey like every other airline. It's not that I'm upset that they won't make an exception for me, it's that they won't even acknowledge I want an exception.
Check out this corporate bullshit:
We appreciate the opportunity to provide clarification of how our fares work.
Plus also they lied. They say:
When fares are posted for purchase, there are a specific number of seats available within each fare class. Our system always offers the lowest available fare on a first come, first served basis. When all seats within that fare class have been sold, the system then offers the next lowest available fare.
I said back:
Since I've been very closely tracking flights this week, I know this isn't true. I've seen several flights drop from $268 to $137. Obviously, the system wasn't offering the lowest available fare. Now I realize that most airlines often change fare prices. However, your description of how it works is very dishonest and a further reason why I'm confused that you refuse to acknowledge that you can sell me a different fare.
We shall see what happens. I just can't afford nearly $300 in extra charges.
Apartment
I now have the address for the apartment, but not the keys. The lady running the biz is a bird brain. While annoying, that works more in my favor than a shady lady running the biz. Tomorrow I start stalking her for the keys and the internet password.
Cold
Yeah. No improvements there. Still panicked. I am bringing a lot of layers and hopefully that is good enough. Yikes!
I'm flying out in the afternoon and then meeting up with my brother after riding the L into the city. I have never used the L to get from OHare to anywhere else before, so I'm super excited about that. Because I'm a nerd who loves public transportation. Weeeee! Then I'm hoping he'll see James Bond with me. I realize that we won't share the same appreciate for Daniel Craig, but that's a sacrifice I'll have to make.
Friday I get to see The Collective! Me? I am giddy. And impatient. Why isn't it Friday now?! Let's blame JetBlue. Maybe they could appreciate the opportunity to move time forward. Just a thought.

Hi - was reading your entry about JetBlue and was piqued by what happened to you....just so you know, because I am a frequent flyer of the airline, I can tell you that they just announced a sale that reduced their prices considerably over the past 1-2 weeks. This could explain why the prices fluctuated so much for you. They weren't offering the lowest possible fare because there was no sale fares at that time and your fare was their lowest possible fare.
I have had this argument with many airlines (not just JetBlue) and unfortunately, they can do this and will do this simply to boost competition and/or fill their planes. In these economic times when everyone's trying to put a tourniquet on their bleeding wallets, high fees and roller-coaster fares are a wave of the future.
You could also just call them and request a supervisor and/or manager and resolve it that way....that's what I would have done simply because it's quicker.
just my .02....

Robin,
Thanks for your two cents. I too am aware of the fare sale and checked that out right away, but none of my flights were included. Additionally, the problem I had with JetBlue was not that they were changing their flights prices, but that they gave me a reason that didn't add up.
I did call, but that was a lost cause because she would not stray from her script. When I brought up my complicated situation she couldn't help or even really discuss it. She said that would happen with everyone I talked to.
I forgot to mention something important:
I am not asking for an exception simply because I can't afford the fees. I am asking for it because the cost changed while I was waiting to hear back from them about the ability to change it.
I just got another email from them and they still refuse to acknowledge this as a reason.
They're saying that I'm asking them to arbitrarily change a rate, but what I'm asking is that they charge me the fees associated at the time I contacted them.
They did answer my question about the rate change: if someone cancels a flight, then it gets resold at it's price.
So now I just have to find someone who paid what I paid canceling the flight I need! :)

Jerks. Last time I flew to Chicago (in October), I flew American. Our flight was nearly empty and they went out of there way to make sure we were all super comfortable, got our own rows, and had a good time since it was so unusual to only have about 50 people on the plane. Amanda and I were both flying for free from frequent flyer miles and the whole thing cost me ten bucks. Plus, the stewardess gave me vodka. Maybe I looked nervous?
So moral of the story: get yourself some American frequent flyer miles.

Ah - that sucks. Then they are schmucks then. I say roast them with the BBB - and mind you, I LOVE Jet Blue. But money in my pocket is better.
