TV: Word.
Welcome to my new regular column where I talk about all the TV I watch. This is a great! idea! because it keeps me from blogging about things which I should pretend don't exist, and! it makes me feel as though my hours upon hours spent in front of the TV are not a mind-blowing waste. I'm not quite ready yet to reveal how many hours that is.
We'll do this in chronological order. Click the jump for action!
America's Next Top Model
Wednesdays, The CW, 8/7c
9/26
Favorite parts:
-The photo shoot. Way to discourage smoking by having them pose glamorously while smoking. Funny, that's exactly what models do in cigarette ads. And in real life. In panel Nigel comments on one of the photos, "this is so beautiful that if it wasn't for it's counterpart.." and the rest of his comment is edited out. But I think we get the idea. Nigel thinks smoking is hot.
-Old Navy. I think this is the first time I have really felt my own life merge with this show because that "dress" that Mila is wearing? The one they say "looks like a bag"? I have it! Only I wear it as a shirt with jeans because otherwise it looks like a bag. Duh, Mila. Also, every time the contestants get picked apart at panel for what they're wearing I think, "I have no idea how to dress like a 'model'." Now I feel really confused since I shop at Old Navy, land of model basics. Whatever.
There have been some mean girls in the past, but this batch is bitch-filled. I was blown away by how much they were talking about Heather behind her back. And that Bianca was all, "a stripper can't be America's Next Top Model, just go home" or whatever. That was way harsh, Tai.
And, I'll admit that I was sat to see Mila go. She was super annoying in her cruise-ship interview, but I thought she was sweet in the house and to the other girls. Tyra and I both value that.
Private Practice
Wednesdays, ABC, 9/8c
9/26
I didn't like the "pilot" (the episode that was aired last May on Grey's Anatomy's time) at ALL. In fact, the entire time I was watching it I had to remark over and over again, "BORING." But this new 'pilot' was better. Less time on a talking elevator (wha?) and more time on the interesting patients + misunderstood doctors equation.
I loved the plot line with the psychologist especially when she got all loud and was like, "patients keep things in for years!" Preach it, sister.
Gossip Girl
Wednesdays, The CW, 9/8c
9/26
I don't love this show no matter how hard I keep trying. I want to love it. However, the characters are beautiful people but they're not smart or witty. Josh Schwartz, where are you? Where is the dimension in these characters?
I heart Blake Lively (Pants! Secret project! Pants 2!) so I'm rooting for her character--the only dynamic character of the whole cast with a "bad girl turned good" gimmick--and the hot guy she is maybe (maybe not) dating.
I'd quit the show altogether but Jacob at Television Without Pity is romancing me with his kick-ass recaps so I'll keep reading.
The Office
Thursdays, NBC, 9/8c
9/27
I love this show.
I'm glad the "hour-long episode!" was cleanly split in two an I would have loved having to wait a week between the two. I've always been a fan of sitcoms being sitcoms. No need to dress up what's already awesome. Needless to say, I'll be glad when they're back to 22 minutes a week. Besides, I love anticipation.
Andy is my favorite and I was disappointed he was stuck with his own lonely plotline. I like to see lonely Andy drag people down with him. Especially when the people are named Dwight and Jim. So now that we have romance out of the way, maybe we can see more of the power struggles next week.
I wanted more Dwight/Michael too. I thought the Angela cat thing was great (and clever and right on) but took too much of my pressure time. I am needy. I need Dwight to spend time with out people too.
Wow, that's a lot of complaining. I still laughed. I was so excited for Jim and Pam (breathless until I finally saw them kiss). And every time I've had cereal this week I've said, "Jan made me breakfast."
And Kevin always makes me laugh.
Grey's Anatomy
Thursdays, ABC, 9/8c
9/27
New interns = weird.
Old interns = new residents = weird.
I do not have a cold black heart so I found the dying deer heartbreaking just like Izzie. Sue me.
Alex: Callie's a bitch.
Izzie: Word.
Despite Izzie's ridiculous hatred for Callie, that is Izzie being non-crazy Izzie. Word. Now lose teh crazy, Iz and we'll have a character I can get behind. What I don't get about this Izzie character and her crazy is that this behavior, this writing, is the one that wins the Emmy. What the fuck? She just gave a speech about how she is bambi and her mother has been shot and she is all alone. Maybe, maybe that kind of line would work for Meredith since her parents are an actual part of the show. But Izzie? Shut up.
Alex's facial hair has got to go. It's like he's trying to be mini-Sloan. One Sloan is bad enough. Oh, and Sloan's whole, "I came back to win you back, Derek" was lame. Even as a joke. And Alex missing Rebecca? Also lame. Give me a new story line! And since when does Alex call her Rebecca anyway?
Blah blah blah Mer and Der break up (shocker!) and George loves Izzie back. Gross.
Cristina (saving lives and taking names) stole this episode. She is brilliant. I love her. I miss Burke too.
Comments
This new segment is AWESOME.
1) Is Old Navy really the land of model basics?
2) That was way harsh, Tai. (You're just a dumb virgin who can't drive.)
3) I like Katherine Heigl fine and everything, but she stole Sandra Oh's Emmy. Full stop.
4) re: GG - Everybody on this entire show is like a scary thirty-eight-year-old woman. With a gun in her purse. Who is drunk.

OK, I love this. Also, there are too many names on Grey's and I can't keep anyone straight without watching the show and I CANT WATCH THE SHOW RIGHT NOW. Maybe you could do a character chart or something.
I love Kevin in the last episode!! He was my only hope when Jim and Pam were lying to us. I would have had a heart attack and died if it weren't for Kevin's speculations. Come watch it at our house this week!

I guess I have a cold, black heart.
I also have a mad girl-crush on Cristina Yang.
