A Blog Post All About Blogs (and not really about My Life)
I ran into an old friend yesterday. Apparently we both frequent the same Starbucks all the time and in a year and a half we have never run into each other. Until yesterday.
"I was just thinking about you!" I told her.
And then she said, "Yeah, me too! I've been reading your blog!"
What? How? What?
So then I asked her why she never commented because hello! I haven't talked to you in a year and a half, how ARE YOU? And she said, "Oh, you know, I'm a lurker."
(Definition of lurker according to the HIgh-Tech Dictionary: A visitor to an online discussion who reads other people's postings but does not contribute.)
Which brings me to the first point of this post: apparently this week is National DeLurking Week which means that ALL YOU LURKERS HAVE TO COMMENT BECAUSE IT IS THE LAW.
So, that little happy face will be adorning the sidebar all week just so you all can muster your courage and say hi. Doesn't she look sweet? She doesn't bite. She won't judge you. So go on, comment. COMMENT!
Secondly, I would like to bring your attention to the switch people are making to Blogger. And by people, I mean Shepherd and Matt. And by making the switch I mean that Shepherd has thrown himself into his hot new blog and Matt is pretending to switch.
So, in honor of them realizing that Xanga is possible the worst blogging platform ever (Google actually ignores it), please go visit their sites and comment. (Remember, it's Comment Week.) And also, some people should think about making the switch.
So, in conclusion:
1. Comment, comment, comment.
2. Hate Xanga.
3. Love me.
4. Visit the boys' sites.
Comments
I feel compelled, no, duty-bound to comment since you linked to me not once, not twice, but THRICE, and also since you commanded us to leave comments.
Lurking is of Satan (you just KNOW he reads all our blogs and he has never ONCE left a comment on mine) and hopefully we can all make a difference this week.

And by three, I mean four.

Dear Abs. I lurk. I still use xanga. I know. I'm a bad person. But I love both you and your blog!

This one time I had a friend who used Xanga and he actually died from it. DIED. Well that is not true, but he did get this really bad rash. And no one wants a blog-induced rash, cause - well - gross.
Anyway, I absolutely hear that Blogger has 75% less rash causing variables than the leading blog platform.

hey hey now. don't knock the xanga. some of us like to be mysterious and not show up on things like google.
geesh.

I got put on blogroll and linked? :suspicious: What do you want.
I can't just leave xanga. We've got a history. I pay for his stuff, we've spent too much time together. If he finds out I've been seeing other people he might get pissed. You don't just walk away from four years of posting without a little thought. We might get divorced in the future, but for now... I just can't leave. Yes, I know he's abusive and doesn't really love me... he's just so unstable sometimes, I never know what to expect... I know.

*lurker* You lead an intresting life, is it bad to live vicariously?
Posted by: hannah-joel's-sis | January 11, 2006 11:11 AM
If it's bad to live vicariously then I would have to quit this blog.
It is bad to not comment. LURKERS! I know you're out there!

I don't want to be a lurker! I'll comment! I like reading your blog while I'm at work; it's a lot better than sitting here or looking at bubbs e-mails that I didn't get.

i dont lurk but i would like to ask why you have no posts about coffee yet. may your baristas spit in your extra caramel caramel frappuccino until this situation is remedied.
Posted by: heather nicole | January 11, 2006 6:40 PM
awwwww - you linked to me! and the darling picture of me too.
Hey, you set it up and I'll move. I think I've blown my reputation on xanga anyway.
;)

hella linked is the right way to describe it, Shepherd!
I mean, damn!
how the hell am I pretending? I'm so offended!
lastly, Sally HAS lost her xanga street cred.
p.s. I was only a lurker for a little while. too little self control, too much laughing out loud.
p.p.s. hi Lisa O!

Abigail cooks a mean chicken and veggie dinner.

Hello! You asked to delurk, so here I am delurking. I've only been reading for a few weeks - got here from Holidailies! Back to lurking for me though!

I don't really lurk, as I comment on occasion. I stumbled upon this blog via a link from Kevin White's blog, and was charmed to discover some young ladies who snarked about life as much as I do. I read almost every day, thanks to my cushy job that is funded by YOUR taxes, thank you very much. I always have this secret fear, though, that Abigail hates me and wishes me to go away.

Heather Nicole, I wrote a post on coffee houses, not coffee though. And gee, you're as evil as it comes. I hope I never offend you. I prefer my coffee spitless.
Abigail, you're not gonna buckle under her pressure are ya?
(hey, am I instigating a row?)
Posted by: Aakanksha | January 11, 2006 11:07 PM
A. Coffee posts are coming. Coffee just isn't the same without you, Heather.
B. Sally, I have set you up on blogger. How do you forget these things so quickly?
C. Matt, you're only pretending because your only post asks whether you should switch. Could you sit on the fence any more?
D. There is no such thing as Xanga street cred.
E. Deb, Abigail doesn't hate. That's a lie. Take two: Abigail doesn't hate people who read her blog. You should comment more, EVERYONE HERE IS A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY SO PARTICIPATE ALREADY.
F. Aakanksha, you can instigate a row here any day. That's what blogging is about afterall, right? Or maybe blogging is about egocentricity. Sometimes I get confused.
Posted by: Abigail | January 11, 2006 11:37 PM
No to hate, yes to comments.
Check and check.
PS. I love coffee.

Ok, ok, I'll come out of my comfortable closet. Though if coming out into the light means I get less sleep, I might have to hurt someone. You probably know my name, possibly my face, and quite possibly my brother (everyone knows Isaac). I found you on the THI blogroll and, mostly, you make me laugh.
